The cyclotron, currently the only public facility of its kind in Catalonia, is another key component of the New Vall d’Hebron and the cornerstone of the Ciclocat project, which brings together clinical care and biomedical research to advance the Catalan healthcare system towards a more efficient, accessible, precise and innovative model of medicine.

Advancing excellence and personalised treatment for patients with spinal cord injury, promoting early rehabilitation and improving autonomy to the fullest extent permitted by the severity and type of injury. This is the objective of the new therapeutic area, a 257 m² open-plan space located on Level 0 of the Traumatology, Rehabilitation and Burns Hospital.

The new Paediatric and Adolescent Haemato-Oncology Area brings together twenty-nine patient rooms, an outdoor terrace, leisure and relaxation areas tailored to different age groups, shared spaces for families, and larger work areas for healthcare professionals with improved natural light.

The new Pre-Admission Unit, which is now located on the same floor as the Admissions Unit and the scheduled surgery operating rooms, has a surface area of ​​228 m2 and consists of twelve boxes, one of them with isolation conditions for patients who may require it. The space also has an adapted bathroom and two changing rooms.

Each year, we provide care to 11,000 patients with neurodegenerative diseases, a group of progressive chronic neurological disorders associated with the accumulation of abnormal proteins in the brain. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases are the most common.

The jury praised it as a high-quality project that stands out for its elegance and precision in execution, as it has successfully reorganized the university campus while integrating a large-scale building into the urban fabric with a particular sensitivity to its surroundings.

As part of the Architecture Weeks, organised by the Barcelona City Council and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, we hosted the “Cities and Healthcare Facilities” sessions.

We have put into operation a total of 1,450 photovoltaic panels distributed across the rooftops of several buildings on the Campus. The new installation, which covers an area of 4,000 square metres and has a maximum capacity of 870 kWp, is one of the largest deployed to date in a public healthcare centre in Catalonia.

Vall d'Hebron hosted Spain’s first Health Services Research Conference, with the aim of raising the profile of research in this field, highlighting its value, and fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences between research groups from different institutions.

A study led by the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Vall d'Hebron and the Maternal and Fetal Medicine research group at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) has shown that women who experience severe complications during pregnancy are at increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke or heart attack, years after giving birth.

Dra. Andreea Ciudin co-led a study with an international panel of experts to develop the first algorithm to guide healthcare professionals in the pharmacological management of obesity. The work, carried out in collaboration with members of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), has been published in two articles in Nature Medicine.

The clinical trial showed that the antibody–drug conjugate trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) significantly improves the pathological complete response rate compared with standard treatment in patients with high-risk, locally advanced, early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer.

The Spanish Ministry of Health has designated Vall d'Hebron as a Centre, Service and Reference Unit (CSUR) for six new conditions and procedures: complex intracranial aneurysms and cerebral revascularisation in adults; refractory headaches and cranial neuralgias in adults; complex craniovertebral junction malformations in adults; rare diseases associated with cognitive disorders in adults; surgical treatment of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer in adults; and surgery for movement disorders.

This certification recognises the Hospital’s commitment to improving the diagnosis and treatment of people living with hepatitis C, while preventing them from being lost to follow-up within the healthcare system. Vall d'Hebron carries out extensive research into viral hepatitis and has established specific clinical protocols for the management of hepatitis C and efforts to eliminate the virus.

Vall d'Hebron has successfully completed the first stage of certification for its Antimicrobial Stewardship Programmes (PROA), awarded by Spain’s National Plan against Antibiotic Resistance (PRAN). These multidisciplinary programmes aim to improve the effectiveness of antibiotic treatments, reduce adverse effects, and help tackle the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.

The Allergology Department has been awarded the Centre of Excellence designation by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). The designation recognises excellence in patient care, research and education, reinforcing Vall d'Hebron’s leadership in the diagnosis and treatment of complex allergic diseases.
