Clinical Neurophysiology

The Clinical Neurophysiology Department deals with the medical specialty covering the set of techniques for the study and evaluation of the physiological and pathological functions of the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system. It is based on the direct or indirect recording of bioelectrical and neurobiological phenomena.

Neurosurgery

The mission of the Neurosurgery Department is to guarantee excellence in care, education and research, with an international outlook. We have a particular focus on the needs and preferences of patients with diseases of the nervous system that require surgical treatment.

The Vall d'Hebron University Hospital has been designated as a reference center (CSUR) in Complex Pediatric. Also, it has been designated as an ERN in Craniofacial anomalies and Disorders of the ear, nose and throat (CRANIO) by the European Commission.

Internal Medicine

At the Internal Medicine Department, we offer comprehensive internal medicine care to adult patients in our region, both at the Hospital and in Primary Care. We are a leading point of reference in both Catalonia and Spain in systemic autoimmune diseases. In addition, the Ageing and Chronic Patient Section covers Geriatrics and coordinates and collaborates with social-healthcare provision throughout the region.

The National Health System has designated the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital as a reference centre (CSUR) in Systemic autoimmune. The European Commission has designated the ERN for Immune Diseases: Area of ​​Autoinflammatory Diseases in the hospital.

Pneumology

At the Pneumology Department, we work to provide patients with respiratory diseases with the best care possible. To achieve this goal, we also carry out research and teaching activity that undoubtedly makes a large contribution to improving care quality.

The National Health System has designated the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital as a reference centre (CSUR) in Child and adult lung transplant. It has also been designated as an ERN in Respiratory diseases by the European Commission and the Catalan Health Service has designated as a XUEC in Respiratory minority diseases in the same hospital.

Radiation Oncology

The Radiation Oncology Department deals with the diagnostic, clinical and therapeutic aspects of cancer patients, prioritising use of radiation and associated therapies. Radiation therapy is a fundamental tool in treating tumours, either exclusively or in combination with other treatments.

The Radiotherapy Oncology Service has the UNE-EN-ISO 9001: 2018 quality certification.

Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat)

Infectious Diseases

The goal of the Infectious Diseases Department is the prevention, control and treatment of these diseases, through three main areas: care, teaching (both undergraduate and postgraduate), and research (between the Vall d'Hebron Hospital and the Autonomous University of Barcelona).

Heart failure

The Heart Failure Unit was created in 2009, based on the collaboration between the Cardiology and Internal Medicine Departments. It is made up of cardiologists, internists, specialists in geriatrics and emergency services. Heart failure is the fastest growing heart disease in our society.

The Dialysis Unit at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital is a reference centre for four haemodialysis centres managed by DIAVERUM, with an approximate total of 380 patients in haemodialysis.
