"Pese a los recientes avances médicos, la sepsis es una patología que continúa presentando una elevada mortalidad (20- 40% según diferentes series) con una incidencia en aumento, representando un verdadero problema de salud público. En los últimos años diferentes estudios demuestran como la respuesta inmunitaria del paciente séptico tiene un papel clave en el desarrollo de esta enfermedad, con interesentes implicaciones pronósticas y terapéuticas que podrían ayudar a cambiar el devenir de esta patología en los próximos años gracias a una estrategia basada en una medicina personalizada y de precisión".
