El premi l’atorga la revista New Medical Economics a partir d’una votació entre els seus lectors.
Cada any, la revista New Medical Economics reconeix a través dels seus lectors i del seu consell editorial els mèrits d’institucions i professionals dedicats a la gestió sanitària a l'Estat mitjançant l’entrega dels Premis New Medical Economics, referents en el món de la sanitat. Enguany, l’Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron és un dels sis candidats a ser reconegut com la institució pública amb una millor gestió durant el 2020.
Els altres cinc candidats són l’Hospital General Universitari Gregorio Marañón de Madrid, el Complex Hospitalari Universitari de Pontevedra, l’Hospital Universitari Sant Joan d’Alacant, l’Hospital Universitari Son Espases de Mallorca i l’Hospital Universitari Marqués de Valdecilla de Santander.
