The Paediatric Digestive and Thoracic Surgery Unit is referenced in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired pathologies of the digestive and respiratory systems, as well as airway and thoracic wall pathologies. It centres its activities on ages ranging from one month to 16 years old.
The unit’s distinguishing feature is minimally invasive surgery, which prioritises the techniques of 3 and 5 millimetre, single-incision laparoscopic and thorascopic surgery, magnetic and robotic surgery. It also brings together a series of characteristics that make it an Airway-Digestive Unit, as it combines endoscopic techniques (digestive and respiratory endoscopy), with combined surgical treatments on airways, thoracic cavities and abdominal cavities.
The unit's values centre on the child and its safety. In order to maintain excellence, we foster scientific and research activities, through a Vall d’Hebron Research Institute group (CIBBIM - Nanomedicine. Bioengineering, Cell Therapy and Surgery in Congenital Malformations) and we give courses for other specialists from the rest of the world.
The unit is composed of the following broad areas of action:
Digestive surgery:
Thoracic surgery:
Paediatric digestive physiology consultation:
