Pancreatic cancer is a serious disease whose treatment depends on factors such as the stage of the tumor, the patient’s general condition, and other associated illnesses. The therapeutic decision is made on an individualized basis and agreed upon by a multidisciplinary team.
In this way, the available options are as follows:
In selected cases, participation in clinical trials may be considered in the search for improved treatment options. These may include drugs currently under investigation whose molecules show promising effects on the tumor, targeted therapy in cases where a specific mutation is identified as the cause of the cancer, immunotherapy, radiofrequency for unresectable tumors, among others.
In addition to treatments aimed at the tumor itself, supportive care and management of symptoms related to pancreatic cancer are also provided. The patient’s nutritional status is continuously assessed as well.
How do we treat it at Vall d’Hebron?
At the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus, we have a Multidisciplinary Pancreatic Cancer Committee, made up of professionals from various specialties who assess each patient’s clinical situation and agree on the best therapeutic option.
