We are the combination of four hospitals: the General Hospital, the Children’s Hospital, the Women’s Hospital and the Traumatology, Rehabilitation and Burns Hospital. We are part of the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus: a world-leading health park where healthcare plays a crucial role.
Patients are the centre and the core of our system. We are professionals committed to quality care and our organizational structure breaks down the traditional boundaries between departments and professional groups, with an exclusive model of knowledge areas.
Would you like to know what your stay at Vall d'Hebron will be like? Here you will find all the information.
The commitment of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital to innovation allows us to be at the forefront of medicine, providing first class care adapted to the changing needs of each patient.
Family members and caregivers play a key role in the well-being and recovery of older people during a hospital stay. Their support, presence and collaboration with the healthcare team contribute to safer, more person-centred care that is tailored to the older person's needs.
Your support as a family member or caregiver is very important for the well-being, safety and independence of the older person. Whether at home or during a hospital stay, your involvement can support their recovery, help prevent complications and contribute to following the healthcare team's recommendations.
Encourage the older person to continue carrying out the activities they can do safely. Staying active helps maintain strength, balance and independence, while also supporting their physical and emotional well-being.
Whenever possible, encourage them to do the activities they are still able to carry out on their own. Doing everything for them may contribute to a loss of independence.
Listen to them, spend time with them and encourage them to stay in touch with family and friends. Feeling supported and being involved in decisions about their care contributes to their emotional well-being.
Help them follow a balanced diet and drink enough fluids, always in line with the recommendations of the healthcare professionals.
If you notice changes in their physical or emotional condition, difficulty walking, increased confusion or any other change that concerns you, contact the healthcare team or their healthcare professional.
An illness or a hospital stay should not mean stopping moving, taking part in daily activities or looking after yourself. With your support, you can help the older person maintain as much independence as possible and support their recovery.
