The Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine Department cares for pregnant women, prioritizing the health of the mother and the future baby above all else, while always respecting the wishes of the mother, such as her preference for a natural birth or a C-section.
For women who want to have children and require technical assistance, we also have a cutting edge assisted reproduction laboratory. We also store the frozen eggs of women who have been diagnosed with cancer; provide treatment and support to women who have suffered consecutive miscarriages; and offer gynecological treatment to girls, teenagers and women who are entering the menopause or who have a health problem.

At the Foetal Medicine Unit of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, we offer highly specialised care for the treatment of various diseases, for both high-risk mothers and foetuses. Our extensive experience makes us a reference centre in Catalonia, Spain and neighbouring countries. Since 2015, we are the only centre in Spain that is able to offer all intrauterine surgery possibilities.
At our Unit, we use the most advanced technology, so we can offer highly sophisticated examinations and treatments both for the foetus, which becomes a patient before birth, and the mother, who presents very high risk problems, for herself and for the foetus or baby.
The main purpose of the Gynaecology Department is to offer constant, up-to-date expert service to all women in our area of influence. On the other hand, as are a level three hospital, we are leaders in high-level techniques and technologies.
Our Department is one of the finest in the country, especially for oncology, for cancer of the breast and lower female genitalia. These are complex pathologies whose treatment must take a multidisciplinary approach. Thanks to the support we receive from multiple specialists, we are proud to offer a high-quality service.
The Paediatrics Teaching Unit has extensive experience in training specialists. There are a total of 60 Paediatrics residents at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, 15 per year. Over the last few years, Paediatrics at Vall d’Hebron has been the first choice for new residents, and in the 2017 exam session achieved the best results of any Spanish hospital. In addition to this, we receive residents from hospitals all over the world.
Pediatric training itineraries
Over the last few years, paediatrics at Vall d’Hebron has been residents’ first choice, and in the 2017 exam session achieved the best results of any Spanish hospital.
The Department has a Paediatrics Teaching Subcommittee, comprising twelve tutors and twenty residents overseeing the practical application of the training and its integration into healthcare activities. Thanks to the involvement of these professionals, we can ensure supervised completion of the training programme objectives.
This Teaching Unit comprises different healthcare departments and units, including the Paediatrics, Nephrology, Neonatology, Paediatric Oncology and Haematology, Intensive Care, Neurology, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Allergies, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, and A&E Departments.
It is vital for residents to train in research methodology as this is necessary to take part in and develop research projects. From the second year onwards, we invite residents to carry out research work, and a minimum number of papers and publications is required in addition to their full cooperation in sessions within the Department.

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Teaching Unit trains residents in the physiological and pathological aspects of human reproduction, and also pregnancy, birth and post-partum care, and their disorders. It also deals with the organs that make up the female genital tract and breast care. Related preventative, psychic, and social aspects are also within its scope.
