At the Foetal Medicine Unit of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, we offer highly specialised care for the treatment of various diseases, for both high-risk mothers and foetuses. Our extensive experience makes us a reference centre in Catalonia, Spain and neighbouring countries. Since 2015, we are the only centre in Spain that is able to offer all intrauterine surgery possibilities.
At our Unit, we use the most advanced technology, so we can offer highly sophisticated examinations and treatments both for the foetus, which becomes a patient before birth, and the mother, who presents very high risk problems, for herself and for the foetus or baby.
The primary mission of the Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Reproductive Medicine Service is to provide a permanent, up-to-date, and high-level service to all women in our area of influence. Additionally, as a tertiary-level hospital, we are committed to being leaders in various techniques and technologies. We care for pregnant women, prioritizing the health of both the mother and the future baby, while always respecting the mother’s wishes, whether she desires a natural birth or a cesarean delivery.
We are a reference center, particularly in oncological pathology, including both breast and lower female genital tract cancers, as well as endometriosis and pelvic floor disorders. These are complex conditions that are addressed from a multidisciplinary perspective. Thanks to the involvement of multiple specialists, we provide care of the highest quality.

The Department has a Paediatrics Teaching Subcommittee, comprising twelve tutors and twenty residents overseeing the practical application of the training and its integration into healthcare activities. Thanks to the involvement of these professionals, we can ensure supervised completion of the training programme objectives.
This Teaching Unit comprises different healthcare departments and units, including the Paediatrics, Nephrology, Neonatology, Paediatric Oncology and Haematology, Intensive Care, Neurology, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Allergies, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, and A&E Departments.
It is vital for residents to train in research methodology as this is necessary to take part in and develop research projects. From the second year onwards, we invite residents to carry out research work, and a minimum number of papers and publications is required in addition to their full cooperation in sessions within the Department.
