Sra. Lia García Gilabert

I studied Biomedicine at the University of Barcelona (2017-2021). During the degree I did an extracurricular internship in the Neurochemistry group at the Department of Biomedicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona (2019). In this stay I collaborated in the characterization of the phagocytic capacity of the brain microglia by using cell cultures and immunocytochemical stainings. During my undergraduate studies, I was also instructor of the Human Physiology II practices from the Biomedicine degree. There I collaborated with the teaching of the laboratory practices, with the preparation of reagents and with the handling of basic physiology equipment. Afterwards, I completed the official Master in Translational Biomedical Research at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) (2021-2022). I carried out my final degree and master's thesis in the group of Monitoring and modulation of brain circuits in brain diseases, at the Department of Biomedicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona. The research I performed during this time consisted mainly in the study and modulation of certain neuronal circuits using optogenetics and DREADDs (Designer Receptors Activated by Designer Drugs) in an animal model of Huntington's disease. This stay in the lab has allowed me to become second author of several posters presented at scientific congresses. Currently, I have started working as a predoctoral student in the research group of Childhood Cancer and Hematological Diseases at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR).
