És doctora en biologia i catedràtica de genètica de la Universitat de Barcelona. Delegada del Rector per a la divulgació científica i secretària de la Comissió de Bioètica de la Universitat de Barcelona. La seva trajectòria professional i acadèmica s'ha desenvolupat a Barcelona, Edimburg i Oxford, i ha estudiat molts camps de la genètica, com ara l'evolució molecular. Actualment dirigeix el grup de recerca “Genètica Molecular Humana” de la Universitat de Barcelona, que estudia les bases genètiques de malalties humanes hereditàries, en particular la ceguesa. Professora del Màster en Bioètica i Dret: Problemes de Salut i Biotecnologia, de la Universitat de Barcelona. La seva tasca docent se centra en genètica molecular, diagnòstic genètic, teràpia gènica, envelliment i genòmica a través de diversos graus i màsters. Fa marxada de diverses comissions de bioètica i de genètica forense.Cap de grup de Recerca Genètica Molecular Humana II- Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD), membre de l'Observatori de Bioètica i Dret (OBD) i de l'Institut de Biomedicina de la Universitat de Barcelona (IBUB), i també del Centre de Recerca Biomèdica a la Xarxa de Malalties Rares (CIBERER) de l'Institut de Salut Carles III.
