Speaker: Dr. Ana Villar, Group Leader at the UC and at the Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria (IBBTEC). Associate Professor (UC-CSIC).
The elucidation of the capabilities of genetically modified extracellular vesicles (EVs) in their use as exogenous biotransporters of substances is of great importance especially for the study of diseases with non-specific treatments, such as cardiac fibrosis. I will show the use of new generation bioluminescent nanoformulations that behave as a specific tracer allowing simultaneous in vivo detection of the experimental drug and the nanocarrier in target organs. This experimental nanodrug can be modified to be detected by synchrotron X-ray fluorescence and used to treat human organoids by modifying the mechanical properties of the miniaturized 3D contractile heart.
Host: Dr. Ibane Abasolo, Head of group Drug Delivery and Targeting (VHIR)
