Intensity of care and areas of clinical knowledge

The Nursing Department is made up of a large number of professionals. Together, they have contributed to making Vall d’Hebron Hospital a benchmark in the world of healthcare, both in the field of care and in teaching and research.

Hence the commitment to a new care-management model organised according to areas of knowledge and intensity of care. This also represents, at the same time, a cultural change within the organisation, to be implemented in several stages. The main goal of this transformation is to optimise the nursing care time required by each patient according to their specific health condition.

The intensity of care is the result of a study based on nursing scientific evidence — that is, a model in which the patient is at the centre and nursing care is provided according to individual needs.

In this way, hospitalisation units are organised into four groups, based on patients’ care needs:

  • Acute care
  • Intensified care
  • Intermediate care
