At first, the #SOMOSUNO campaign will have two beneficiaries: the Vall d'Hebron investigation and the Madrid Health Department, but it will add new proposals.

Aida Domenech, better known as Dulceida, is one of the most important influencers of the moment and together with his wife Alba Paul, also an influencer, have used their social networks to support the coronavirus research that we are carrying out in Vall de Hebron. With the #SOMOSUNO campaign, Dulceida will raise funds for Vall d'Hebron and the Ministry of Health of Madrid.

Aida Domenech has become one of the popular faces that has reinforced the message of awareness to protect us against COVID-19 from her social networks, always under the guidelines of the institutions and the Ministry of Health. Given the situation of alarm that our country is experiencing at this time due to this disease, Aida has wanted to go one step further. For this reason, she launched a crowdfunding campaign, #SOMOSUNO, intended to raise funds for assistance and research in the fight against COVID- 19. The campaign has been illustrated by the artist Carlos Toledo.

At first, this initiative will have two beneficiaries, Vall d'Hebron and the Ministry of Health of Madrid, but new proposals related to this cause will be added by other Autonomous Communities while the state of alarm is in force.

In Catalonia, the donation focuses on research, a very important part in the fight against the virus, from the hand of Vall Hebron, where researchers are focusing all their efforts on analyzing the behavior of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with the aim to find its weak points and be able to develop strategies to prevent, treat and cure the disease. A transversal investigation for the benefit of the whole society.

In Vall d'Hebron a multidisciplinary group of more than 100 researchers and doctors from different research areas (epidemiologists, internists, geneticists, virologists, immunologists, molecular biologists, etc.) are already working very intensively and have launched different research projects.

This research has 7 specific objectives and areas of action:
  1. Understand and predict how the virus spreads among the population. This information will help planning the steps to be taken at all times.
  2. Determine why some people are more susceptible to developing the disease than others. That is, why there are infected people who do not have symptoms or develop a mild form of the disease, while in others the coronavirus is life-threatening.
  3. Identify if there are more contagious and virulent strains of the virus.
  4. Generate new effective, fast and cheap methods of virus detection.
  5. Develop drugs that block the virus from entering cells. In this way the virus could not spread throughout the body.
  6. Check the effect of drugs that we already know are effective in the treatment of other diseases.
  7. Work on the development of an effective and safe vaccine against SARS-CoV-2.

But we don’t stop here and our recognized efficiency in conducting clinical trials and the collaborations we regularly maintain with other research centers and hospitals and also with the pharmaceutical industry will let us, in the coming days or weeks, to launch new research projects.
