Dr. María José Soler, nephrologist at the Nephrology Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and principal investigator of the Nephrology group of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), was recently appointed editor-in-chief of the specialized publication Clinical Kidney Journal (CKJ).

The journal belongs to the ERA-EDTA (European Kidney Association - European Dialysis and Transplant Association), and is in the first quartile of the specialty. ERA-EDTA is an organization made up of more than 9,000 clinicians and scientists from the fields of nephrology, dialysis, and kidney transplantation and hypertension, among others. It aims to advance medical science by promoting fundamental and clinical advances in these areas, and also publishes other publications such as the journal NDT Nephrology and Dialysis Transplantation.

Clinical Kidney Journal, meanwhile, is one of their monthly magazines, which covers news of interest to nephrologists around the world. It is fully online and Open Access, and aims to be an educational and training resource that integrates clinical, translational and educational research into clinical practice, and promotes innovation in the field of nephrology.

Dr. Soler has highlighted the importance of this appointment. “It is a great responsibility, since, together with the editors of the CKJ, the articles and the format and future of the magazine are decided. One of my objectives is to promote social media and the participation of all nephrologists and those interested into nephrology, making it a dynamic, modern and international journal”.

Dr. María José Soler, who will take office in June 2022, is on the editorial boards of the journals Clinical Kidney Journal, BMC Nephrology and Kidney Blood Pressure Research. She is also a member of the scientific committee of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) News, as well as a guest editor of several special issues on nephrology. In addition, she is a member of the board of directors of the Spanish Society of Nephrology.

“For me, it is an honor to be the CKJ's first female editor-in-chief. The previous editors set a very high standard and I will work really hard so that the magazine continues to grow”, says Dr. Soler.
