Currently, there is no guaranteed way to prevent pancreatic cancer. However, there are modifiable factors associated with its development, such as obesity, diabetes, chronic alcohol consumption, a diet high in red meat and animal fats, and smoking.
In a minority of cases, there is a genetic predisposition.
Currently, there is no established protocol for the early detection of pancreatic cancer, which is why it is extremely important to lead a healthy lifestyle and address modifiable risk factors.
Routine physical activity combined with a balanced diet that reduces the consumption of red meat and animal fats is recommended. This helps prevent obesity, diabetes, and exposure to carcinogenic agents in food.
Additionally, two very important measures are avoiding alcohol and tobacco, which are clearly linked to the development of pancreatic cancer as well as many other diseases.
In cases of a family history of cancer, the patient should be evaluated for referral to a genetic counseling unit.
