We are the combination of four hospitals: the General Hospital, the Children’s Hospital, the Women’s Hospital and the Traumatology, Rehabilitation and Burns Hospital. We are part of the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus: a world-leading health park where healthcare plays a crucial role.
Below we will list the departments and units that form part of Vall d’Hebron Hospital and the main diseases that we treat. We will also make recommendations based on advice backed up by scientific evidence that has been shown to be effective in guaranteeing well-being and quality of life.
Would you like to know what your stay at Vall d'Hebron will be like? Here you will find all the information.
The commitment of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital to innovation allows us to be at the forefront of medicine, providing first class care adapted to the changing needs of each patient.
At the Emergency Department of the Maternity and Children's Hospital, we care for paediatric, gynaecological and obstetric emergencies.
At the Gynaecological and Obstetric Emergency Department, we provide care for both gynaecological and obstetric emergencies. To do so, we have a professional team of gynaecology and obstetrics doctors. We also boast a number of anaesthetists, residents, midwives, nurses, assistants and paediatricians. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The gynaecological diseases we treat most frequently are vaginal and vulvar disorders, such as vulvovaginitis, bartholinitis or abscesses in the Bartholin gland, vaginal tears due to acute traumatism or intravaginal foreign bodies; breast pathologies such as mastitis, breast abscesses or trauma; internal genital tract disorders, such as heavy menstrual bleeding, fibroid expulsion, haemorrhagic follicle, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease and acute abdomen.
The Department is located in a women-only ward, separate from the emergency wards of other specialties, and we provide a range of spaces. There is a cubicle for initial assessment as soon as the woman arrives at the emergency room, where qualified healthcare staff evaluate the seriousness of the emergency (known as triage) and from there we decide what care the patient requires. We also have two cubicles where we can carry out a complete gynaecological assessment. The cubicles are equipped with all the necessary material, and each dispensary has an echograph meaning we can perform ultrasounds on the spot. This tool is of great value in diagnosing gynaecological pathologies.
In gynaecological pathologies, some women require immediate emergency surgery. For such cases, we have two fully equipped operating theatres right here in the emergency department so we can perform any type of emergency surgery for either diagnosis or treatment. Likewise, our staff are on hand at all times for any type of surgery that might be required. Of course, our preference is for a minimally invasive approach using laparoscopy or hysteroscopy for the womb.
