Care activity

We are patient-orientated professionals committed to quality care. All healthcare specialisations, clinical services and support departments, teaching centres, research centres and laboratories are involved in this work. The patient is at the heart of it all, the focus of our system. Vall d’Hebron University Hospital is the largest hospital complex in Catalonia and one of the largest in Spain. Almost 70 years of experience on the front line of clinical care bear testimony to our status as a leading national and international centre.

Our staff

Over 9,500 people from the fields of care, research, teaching and innovation go to work each day to provide the best possible service to patients and the people accompanying them. Our commitment is to offer the best possible healthcare and service. At Vall d’Hebron, we know that each patient has a unique story, which is why we work with dedication and professionalism to provide the highest quality care.

Expenditure

Research

At the Vall d’Hebron Campus, we carry out research to solve people’s health problems. Our work at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) goes beyond basic and translational research; we are leaders in clinical research. Our hospital beds are less than 50 metres from the laboratories and our patients benefit from the research carried out there.

This commitment to research is shared by industry leaders, who choose our hospital to carry out their first clinical trials, making us a world-wide benchmark.

In the field of cancer, at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) we follow a translational and multidisciplinary research model. Organised into three main programmes (preclinical and translational, clinical and basic technologies), our research focuses on understanding the fundamental biology of human cancer, from cell and molecular biology to genetics and therapeutics.

Teaching

We generate, transform and transmit knowledge in all areas of health sciences. At the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, our research centres and specialised services work to train tomorrow’s healthcare professionals. We ensure complete and continuous education through various programmes covering university level, residency, specialised training and continuous professional training.

Communication

We make every effort to be close to patients, the public and professionals. Our endeavours are cross-cutting and transmedia, involving leadership, strategy, corporate identity and transparency at the service of all Vall d’Hebron.

Our main goal is ensuring Vall d’Hebron and its professionals are recognised everywhere as a leading healthcare centre, and for the public to receive the best possible response at all times. This helps build better ties between professionals and patients than ever before.
