Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition Area

The Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition Area of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital has a multidisciplinary team composed of endocrinology and nutrition specialists, nurses expert in diabetes and nutritional support, dietitians, and podiatrists. The area has a highly cross-cutting activity due to the high incidence of diabetes, obesity, and malnutrition among hospitalized patients, and combines clinical care with teaching and research within the Diabetes and Metabolism group of VHIR. Coordinated work among professionals has enabled the development of an integrative model for the management of diabetes, obesity, and nutritional support, improving planning, quality of care, and continuity of patient follow-up.

Currently, the area focuses its efforts on the early detection of malnutrition and the follow-up of patients with poor glycemic control, aiming to reduce complications and hospital stays. Through diabetes education, nutritional support, and the improvement of care pathways, comprehensive and personalized care is ensured, oriented toward enhancing patients’ health and well-being.
