Knowledge areas

The organisational structure of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital breaks down traditional boundaries between services and professional groups. It is based on 35 knowledge areas (29 specific and 6 cross-cutting) to provide more coordinated care. Its four main objectives are:

  • Patient-centred care
  • Territorial clinical management
  • Teamwork and competency-based roles
  • Intensity of care

This interdisciplinary model reorganises services and units around health problems to improve coordination and efficiency. The cross-cutting areas support all patients throughout the different stages of life, ensuring continuous and comprehensive care.

Vall d’Hebron’s organisational model enables a better response to patients’ needs and promotes new professional roles. The involvement of all professionals and the public is key to building the Hospital of the future and improving the population’s quality of life.
