Head of Department

Director of the Clinical Laboratories and Head of the Clinical Biochemistry Service of the Clinical Laboratories of the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, as well as Head of the Clinical Biochemistry, Drug Delivery and Research Therapy Group of the VHIR. I coordinate the six services that make up the Clinical Laboratories, with a team of professionals oriented to the development of care, teaching, research and innovation, within a common project focused on excellence. Based on a transversal and highly automated model, with highly specialized laboratories we offer a diagnosis of maximum precision and promote innovation in laboratory medicine, incorporating artificial intelligence technologies to advance the diagnosis and prevention of diseases. I have a PhD in Biomedicine from the UB, a specialist in the knowledge area of Clinical Biochemistry of Hormones, a master's degree in Management of Healthcare Institutions and, currently, an associate professor at the UAB.

Curriculum

Healthcare Activity:
Since 2007 I have been working in healthcare at the University Hospital, where I trained as a specialist in Clinical Biochemistry (2003). I am a pharmacist by training and until 2019 I was responsible for the Hormone Process (Endocrine Pathology) of the same Service and later Head of Section of the Automated Laboratory. Since 2023 I have been Head of the Clinical Biochemistry Service and in 2025 I have been appointed Clinical Director of the Clinical Laboratories.

The Clinical Biochemistry Service is part of the Clinical Laboratories of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, which also provides in vitro diagnosis coverage to the entire population, with public healthcare, of the city of Barcelona (1.5 million people).
In 2019 I completed a master's degree in Healthcare Institution Management, I have training in healthcare processes and specialized in automation, concepts that I try to apply in my usual practice and in the Service. Finally, I am the secretary of the hospital's In Vitro Diagnostics Commission.

Research Activity:
I have a PhD in Biomedicine from the University of Barcelona (2015) and Group Leader of Clinical Biochemistry, Drug Delivery and Research Therapy at the Research Institute of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital since 2023. In recent years I have actively participated in different publications of the Service itself and in collaboration with research groups and services of the hospital.
Associate of the eCore Personalized Medicine, Innovative Diagnostics, Molecular Imaging & Digital Health of the VHIR.
I am President of the Catalan Association of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (since June 2021) and President of the Hormones Commission (since 2023) and of the Executive Committee (since 2018) of the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (Semedlab).

Teaching Activity:
I am currently an Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry Unit.
I participate in the postgraduate supervision of doctoral theses in the Biochemistry Service.
