Legionelosis

La legionelosis es una enfermedad producida por la bacteria Legionella pneumófila, que vive usualmente en circuitos de agua contaminada, como son conducciones de agua, estanques, torres de refrigeración, piscinas o jacuzzis.

Se adquiere por inhalación al haber estado el paciente en contacto con el agua contaminada, ya sea por el baño o por estar en zonas próximas, ya que la bacteria se puede diseminar desde el agua al ambiente circundante.

Produce generalmente una infección pulmonar en forma de neumonía que -de no ser diagnosticada y tratada precozmente- puede revestir gravedad y riesgo vital.
